OWEN WINS GROUP, FINISHES 4TH IN CHAMPIONSHIP, DYLAN FINISHES 6TH

Another great season in the Scottish Minimoto Championship came to a close yesterday in the final round at Kartstart, Kirkcaldy. Both Owen and Dylan were a bit off the pace in qualifying, starting from 2nd and 6th respectively in Group 2.

Owen made some great starts, leading in the first race, until it was red flagged for an incident on the track. He took the lead in each of the remaining races, winning the first two. In the final race, a re-reun of the first, he had a collision when the rider he was trying to lap fell off in front of him, eventually coming home in 5th.Read more...

It was enough to win the group and gave him a 5th overall in Junior A on the day. Dylan made up some ground in the races with 4th, 3rd and 6th place finishes, which gave him an 8th place in Junior A on the day.Owen finished the 2014 season in 4th place overall in the Junior A. Dylan finished the season in 6th place in Junior A. It's been a solid season from both boys with plenty of excitement and some fantastic performances. ...Less

TEAMMELLOR RIDERS BATTLE EACHOTHER AT KIRKCALDY

Round 6 of the Scottish Championship took place at Kartstart, Kirkcaldy. The penultimate race of the season saw Owen and Dylan both qualifying in Group 1 for the first time, Owen qualifying 5th and Dylan in 6th in the Junior A class. Owen also qualified 7th in the Feather weight class.

The tight indoor karting track always produces some exciting, close racing with few opportunities to pass. An incident on lap 2, causing a 5 bike pile up, saw Owen and Dylan manage to avoid the carnage and seize the opportunity to move into 2nd and 3rd positions. They stayed there until 3 laps from the end when Dylan was passed by Junior B rider Logan Turner. Logan slipped off a corner later and Dylan was unable to avoid him and also came off. The chasing pack then closed in on Owen who slipped back to 4th on the last lap. Dylan rejoined the race and came home in 5th.Read more...

The second race was less eventful with Owen finishing 4th with Dylan close behind in 5th. Race 3 saw Dylan make the most of a slow start by Owen to get into 4th place. Owen tried extremely hard to make his way past Dylan but Dylan managed to hold him off to take the 4th place, with Owen in 5th. Owen was 4th overall on the day and the result keeps him 4th in the Championship. Dylan was 5th, which moves him up to 5th in the Championship going into the final race of the season....Less

DYLAN WINS GROUP TO CLIMB INTO TOP 6 JUNIORS!

The Scottish Minimoto Championship returned to Knockhill Racing Circuit for Round 5 and the last outdoor meeting of the season. Thankfully there was no repeat of the stormy conditions from Round 3. Owen qualified 4th and Dylan was 5th in the Junior A 4.2 Class, putting Owen in Group 1 and Dylan on Pole in Group 2. Owen, riding his Polini GP5 Reverse production bike for the first time in the championship, qualified a personal best 5th in the Feather Weight Production Class.Read more...

Owen rode brilliantly in each of his 3 races, but he just couldn't make up the ground to get into the podium places, finishing 4th in each one. In the Feathers he had some excellent starts, getting up to 3rd in Race 1, which he held for half the race before being passed by Josh Crawford, to finish 4th. In the next 2 races he got straight into 4th place at the start and managed to stay there to finish a personal best 4th place overall in the Feathers.

Dylan began his races on pole in Group 2. He lost out at the start of the races to Liam Bassett and Cody Johnson but he managed to fight his way back to the front of the pack. He rode brilliantly and took the win in Race 1 comfortably. It was the same again in Races 2 and 3, with Dylan having to fight his way back into 1st place. However, he lost out on the next 2 wins to a resurgent Logan Turner. He won the group overall though, with a 1st and two 2nds meaning he finished a personal best of 5th overall in the Junior A class.

These results take Owen into 4th Place in the Championship with Dylan close behind in 6th. Well done to both our boys.

SUPER STARTS FROM OWEN AFTER STARTING AT BACK!

Owen and Dylan took part in the NMRRC for the second time this year in Round 9 at Red Lodge on Sunday. The track was brilliant, with a good mix of fast, sweeping bends and tight corners. After a rainy practice on Saturday, followed by a few major mechanical problems, it turned out to be a decent race day. Dylan qualified 10th in the Junior 4.2 class and Owen started from 20th after he was forced to sit out qualifying when a loose guide block came free and melted all over his clutch shoes!Read more...

Owen made some great starts, shooting up the straight with his front wheel in the air, as he fought his way from last place, making up 11 positions to finish 9th in Race 1 and 10th in Race 2. Dylan finished his races in 11th and 14th. Owen also managed to get in some much needed practice on his new Polini GP5 production bike in the junior production class. A good effort from the boys with a lot of positives to take away from the weekend....Less

OWEN WINS HIS GROUP AT LARKHALL

The Scottish Championship Round 4 was held at the West of Scotland Kart Club in Larkhall. It was a great track and there was a lot of great racing. Owen qualified 6th in the Junior A Class and Dylan qualified 8th, putting both of them in Group 2 with Owen on Pole and Dylan 3rd.

Owen won the group with two 2nd places and a 1st. Dylan missed most of the second qualifying after his chain wrapped around his front sprocket. He took a little while to get up to speed in race 1 but claimed 2nd spot in race 2 behind Owen (see photos). A little bit of drama in race 3 saw Dylan fight his way back up to 4th after a bad start, only for a brake disc bolt to come loose and jam against the forks, nearly throwing him off his bike! He managed to keep it going despite it keep slowing his bike down and he made it home in 7th.

STORMY CONDITIONS AT KNOCKHILL PRODUCES FANTASTIC RACING

Round 3 of the Scottish Championship took place at Knockhill Racing Circuit in very wet, stormy conditions. Despite this, it produced some very exciting races for Owen and Dylan. Owen, riding for the first time on wet tyres and hoping for a second podium in a row, went quickest in first qualifying but slipped into 3rd at the end of second qualifying. He lost out at the start of the races and became embroiled in a battle for 3rd with Jack Hart. Owen finished 4th in the first two races behind Jack after some fantastic riding and 5th in in final race after sliding off when pushing hard to try and take that 3rd place. He came away with 4th overall in the Junior A 4.2 Class, which leaves him 5th in the Championship.Read more...

Dylans run of bad luck with his bike continued when the valve on his back wheel started leaking, leaving him riding in first qualifying with a flat tyre. When he got it fixed he came back to qualify 8th. His bike seemed to get slower as the wet weather took its toll and he struggled to maintain his pace in the races, coming home in 9th in Race 1. His bike failed to start for the second race so he had to switch to Owen's bike. It turned out to be quite lucky and he recovered from a slow start to battle against Devon Ker Ramsay, managing to fend him off for a few laps and make his way past Cody Johnson into second. He then closed in on leader Owen Paterson for some extremely close racing before taking the lead coming out of the final corner and crossing the line a wheels length ahead to win the race!

Thinking we had his bike working properly, Dylan set out in Race 3 on his own bike and he seemed okay, lapping well and getting up to third before his brakes failed, sending him over the tyre wall in the first corner. He limped home in 12th place to put him 9th overall in the Junior A 4.2 Class. Dylan is now 8th in the championship.

OWEN ON PODIUM IN BIKEWISE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE!

Owen and Dylan took part in the Bikewise Minimoto Championship race at Warden Law karting track in Sunderland. The day started badly for Dylan when his chain came off on the first corner during qualifying. After putting it back on, it came off again at the end of his out lap. It turned out that his rear wheel bearing had shattered, leaving the wheel unbalanced. By the time it had been repaired he had missed qualifying and was forced to start 15th and last at the back of the Group 2 grid. He showed his class immediately in the first race, going from 15th to 6th within the first lap and taking the lead by the 3rd lap. He rode brilliantly and achieved 4 wins out of 4 to win the group.Read more...

Owen did extremely well and qualified in 4th place in the Junior A 4.2 class. He made a few bad starts in his races, losing 3 or 4 places each time, which left him having to battle his way back through the field. He produced some fantastic riding and came away with two 4ths and a 3rd, giving him a 3rd place overall and his first trophy of the season....Less

OWEN WINS GROUP AS DYLAN MOVES UP TO GROUP 2

Round 2 of the Scottish Minimoto Championship, now being held at Kartstart, Kirkcaldy, saw Owen and Dylan produce their best performances to date on the narrow, twisty indoor karting track. Owen stormed to 3 wins out of 3 in Group 2 with some brilliant riding, coming away with 4th place overall in the Junior A class. Dylan, after missing most of the first practice when his chain came off, nailed the qualifying to start the race in Group 2 for the fist time, just 1.1 seconds behind Owen. Dylan rode extremely well to come home 6th overall in the Junior A Class.

GOOD START TO SEASON FOR TEAMMELLOR BOYS

The Scottish Minimoto Championship 2014 got underway at Kartstart, Kirkcaldy today.  After a hard, bruising weekend riding in the NMRRC Round 3 at Teeside, the boys dusted themselves off, ready for the first race of the new season. Owen qualified 8th and Dylan qualified 10th, his highest ever start. With the championship seeing it's largest group of new riders for a few seasons the Group 2 category was split with Owen beginning in Group 2 and Dylan started in pole position in Group 2B.

Owen rode well and finished 8th and 6th before coming off his bike after losing a footpeg midway through the final race. Dylan, bouyed by starting from the front, reduced his qualifying time by 2 seconds in the races, leading the pack home in each one. A good start to the season.

DYLAN GETS 2ND PLACE IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE IN BENIDORM!

Owen and Dylan took part in the Mini Moto World Championship after an amazing week of practice at the Finestrat Karting circuit. The weather stayed fine for the majority of the time so the boys got plenty of riding in, getting quicker all the time. The rain came down on Wednesday and Thursday so practice and qualifying were called off as the track was unridable when wet. Owen had a couple of off's, requiring a new seat and footpeg brackets!  Things finally got underway on Friday. Owen's bike failed to make it from the pits as a screw had snapped and become wedged in his clutch backplate, forcing him to sit out qualifying and start from the back of the grid. Dylan qualified at the front of the Junior A's and began on pole for the race, which had all Juniors (A, B and Production) racing together.Read more...

The race began well for both riders, with Owen making up 5 places at the start. An accident caused a red flag to be shown and as the riders slowed down, Dylan had a collision and came off his bike. At the restart, Dylan was sent to the back of the grid while Owen maintained his 7th place. Both riders rode superbly and Dylan made his way through the field to clinch a 2nd place in the Junior A (6-8 Year olds). Owen took another 2 places to come home in 5th in the Junior B (9-13 Year olds). An excellent performance from both TeamMellor's riders topped off with Dylan's first ever Trophy for the team.

England's riders were also awarded the Mini Moto World Championship Trophy.
